History tracking is necessary to keep a record of all the changes that happen for a particular field in Salesforce.


To enable the history tracking, 


The volunteer Status field is taken as an example here.


From Setup, go to Object Manager and click on the Volunteer Hours object. Then go to Fields and Relationships and search for Status field, and click the "Set History Tracking" button. Enable the Status checkbox and save it.


Click the Details button and enable the "Track Field History" check box and Save it.


  • After saving the Track field history, go to page layouts and add "Volunteer Hours History" to the related tab and save it.
  • You now see all the changes for the Volunteer Status in the volunteer Hours tab under related list in Salesforce.
